I'm Hasti Jamshidi

I'm Dr. Elham (Hasti) Jamshidi, a healthcare innovator and MBA candidate at Johns Hopkins University. With a background in pharmaceutical sciences and healthcare technology, I've founded two healthcare startups and am passionate about improving community health outcomes. Through CityLab, I aim to understand how urban spaces influence public health and how we can design cities that promote wellbeing for all residents.

About My Community

Baltimore's Inner Harbor has been the city's heart since its founding in 1729. Originally a bustling seaport vital to Maryland's tobacco trade, it transformed into one of America's major maritime centers. Today, while still an active port, the Inner Harbor serves as Baltimore's cultural hub, symbolizing the city's ongoing evolution from industrial powerhouse to innovation center.

Living near the Inner Harbor at Charles Street, I've witnessed how this waterfront creates a unique rhythm for Baltimore's communities. As someone developing healthcare innovations, I'm fascinated by how the harbor's transformation mirrors healthcare's evolution - from traditional approaches to innovative solutions that better serve our communities."

I've chosen to explore the East Baltimore community surrounding Johns Hopkins Hospital for my fieldwork. This area perfectly exemplifies the intersection of healthcare institutions and community development, representing both challenges and opportunities in urban health equity. As someone working at Johns Hopkins Hospital and developing healthcare technologies, I'm particularly interested in understanding how this medical hub influences the surrounding community's wellbeing.
